2.6.7 Scholarly Project

The scholarly project is intended to be completed within the term of registration for the course, HE795 Scholarly Project. Projects that extend beyond one term will result in a grade of “Incomplete” for the initial term.. Many students start work on their Scholarly Projects prior to enrolling in HE795. HPEd Program faculty members utilize a “Scholarly Project Planning Form” to identify the best, personalized plan for the Scholarly Project and to make sure that it aligns with program goals and student’s individual goals. A public presentation of the scholarly project is a requirement for graduation at the HE747 Capstone Seminar. Specific requirements are described in the HE795 Scholarly Project course syllabus and guidelines. It is expected that the scholarly project advisor, and any faculty who contribute to the work, will be listed as authors on submitted articles, abstracts, and presentations. The order of authors will be listed in accordance with type and degree of contributions, and may vary with each work. Typically, faculty advisors in supervisory roles are senior authors on these works.

Students are encouraged to submit their scholarly projects for publication after completion. Advisors, who have invested heavily in the scholarly project, should be included as authors in all submissions of this work. The student will be first author. If the student has not submitted their work for any publication after 6 months, the advisor may contact the student to determine a plan for dissemination. This may include the option of the advisor becoming first author and taking primary responsibility for submission.
