2-1 Qualifications of Members
These designations are for the purposes of faculty governance. Members of the Faculty include regular, part-time, adjunct faculty, key academic leaders, key leaders of major affiliates, and emeriti faculty.
a. Regular faculty member: Those persons appointed to the Faculty who devote a .50 FTE effort or greater and have a written contract with a specified term of appointment, and who are not identified as key academic leaders at the institute (see item D).
b. Part-time faculty member: Those persons appointed to the Faculty who devote a .49 FTE effort or less with a written contract noting a specified term of appointment.
c. Adjunct faculty member: Those persons appointed for a term of service at the 0.0 level.
d. Key academic leaders at the Institute: Those persons occupying the role of President, Provost (and prefaced), Deans (and prefaced), and other academic unit leaders. The Chairs, Deans, Associate Provost, Provost, and President serve as members of the Faculty of the Institute.
e. Key leaders of major affiliates: The leaders in our major clinical/academic affiliates (MGH, BWH, and SRH) are eligible to serve as affiliate faculty. Key leaders include those in positions such as directors, vice presidents, or above, who serve as leaders in disciplines for which the Institute has academic programs or for those in related disciplines with which the Institute has a collaborative interest or relationship.
f. Emeritus faculty member: Faculty members who retire and have contributed a substantial proportion of their career or have made extraordinary contributions to the Institute.
