3-1 Chair of Faculty
In the ordinary
course, the Chair of the Faculty shall serve for a term of one (1) year
following a one (1) year term as Chair-elect.
The Chair shall preside at All-Faculty and Senate meetings, set the agenda for such meetings, call special meetings, and appoint eligible faculty members to serve on Senate committees and task forces or to fill vacancies as described in these Bylaws. The Chair shall also represent the Faculty to the varied constituent bodies of the Institute, the Provost and President, and Student Government Association. The Chair may designate a substitute for the purpose of such representation. The Chair will serve ex officio on standing committees of the Faculty Senate, except for the Nominating Committee, and will appoint Faculty to fill committee positions vacated between elections, as further described in these Bylaws. The Chair may designate the Chair-elect to carry out these duties. The Chair may not run for the office of Chair Elect during his or her term as Chair of the Faculty.
In the event of a
vacancy in the office of Chair, the Chair-elect shall succeed to the Chair for
the unexpired portion of the term and then complete their term as Chair in
the succeeding year.
