2.3.5 Petitions and Appeals
Students maintain the right to petition the departmental chair or designee for any variance from program level policy or procedure. Any course level issues should be addressed with the course faculty directly first.
Petitions should include the specific request, an explanation of why the request is being made, and should include any supporting documentation to justify why the petition should be granted. Petition letters should be submitted to the departmental Executive Committee. Petition letters attached to emails are acceptable.
All petitions will be reviewed by the departmental Executive Committee. The Department Chair will create an ad hoc committee consisting of 3 FTE faculty members with at least two of them having at least 0.5 FTE appointments. That ad hoc committee would then submit its recommendation to the Department Chair, who will make the final determination.
The departmental Executive Committee's designee will inform the student in writing of the outcome of the petition process within 14 days of its receipt. Students may choose to further appeal the outcomes of their petitions may follow SHRS Appeal Policy.
