NP 701 Adlt/Gero PCNP Theory I
Prerequisites: RN Status, NH 602, NP 715N, NP-762N. Co or prerequisite: NP-739. Completion of Generalist portion of program or Post-Professional Nursing Degree. Pass/Fail and audit option not available. This is the first of three primary care courses that prepare students for advanced practice as Adult/Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners. Content continues to refine critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills acquired in NP-760 Advanced Assessment and Diagnostic Reasoning. Emphasis is placed on age related changes, holistic, culturally and developmentally sensitive assessment and management of common acute and chronic health conditions encountered across the adult life span from age 13 - through middle and older adulthood. The nursing goals of disease prevention, restoration and promotion of health are explored. The relationship between illness and aging within a community and family context is examined.
