3.1.7 Petition to Request a Modified Course Curriculum

The format of the MGH IHP Speech-Language Pathology Doctorate program is a lock-step curriculum taking place over six semesters. However, the department recognizes that there may be extenuating personal or educational circumstances in which a student may need to modify the pre-defined curriculum.

If a modified curriculum plan is needed, the student must first meet with the Program Director to discuss the need and to determine potential options. After meeting with the Program Director, should the student decide to move forward with the modified curriculum process, the student will complete a written petition for curricular modification.

Petitions should include the specific curricular modification they are proposing, what (if any) effects this will have on the Capstone project, an explanation of why the request is being made, and any supporting documentation. The SLPD Student Support Committee will determine whether the modified course curriculum is appropriate and reasonable within the constraints of the program.

If the petition for a modified curriculum is approved, the student will work with the Program Director and Chair of the SLPD Student Support Committee to finalize a new curricular structure prior to the beginning of the next semester. The modified curriculum plan will begin during the upcoming semester and cannot be created retroactively.

Any future changes to this adjusted curricular structure will require a new petition.
