Assignments During Fieldwork Experiences
Students should expect to receive assignments from fieldwork educators, typically during Level II Fieldwork, including, but not limited to, literature search to review evidence-based practice, background reading, case presentations, in-service presentations, and written assignments, including draft documentation for the medical or educational record, intervention plans, evaluation results, summaries, home programs, etc. Any assignments determined by the site or faculty overseeing the fieldwork experience are required in addition to the fieldwork course assignments, listed on the syllabus.
All assignments must be completed according to the criteria specified by the fieldwork education supervisor. Assignments not completed by the established deadline or according to standards will be reflected in the student’s performance evaluation and may influence whether the student successfully passes the fieldwork course.
Students should not interpret the above as replacing the responsibility they hold to take initiative in their own learning in the fieldwork setting. Students are expected to identify areas in which they need review, practice, or additional information; take the initiative to seek out appropriate resources; and act to address these learning needs.
When students are tasked with initiating or completing an academic assignment based on their fieldwork experience, such as a case study, they should first discuss the assignment with their Fieldwork Educator. It's crucial to adhere to facility policies, especially those protecting the confidentiality of patient information. If any issues arise that may hinder the completion of the assignment, students should inform the AFWC and proactively engage with their fieldwork educator to find suitable solutions. Additionally, students are reminded of resources are available to support them, including the MGH IHP Library, department faculty and staff, and the AFWC.
