22.5. Problems between Student and Preceptor
Students are encouraged to initially attempt to resolve any issues that may occur at a clinical site with their preceptor. This is an opportunity for a professional dialogue between the student and preceptor. If students feel they are unable to resolve the problem, then the student should contact the Director of Clinical Education. Concerns should be addressed early and brought to the attention of the DCE as soon as possible. Problems may be in areas such as personality conflicts, communication issues, and adequacy of the learning experience. The DCE will, when appropriate, discuss the issues with the preceptor and attempt to resolve the conflict. If the conflict is unable to be resolved, the DCE will work with the clinical team to reassign the student if there is preceptor availability. The DCE may refer the student to the Program Director, SDC or the Dean of Students for further support.
