8 - Certification and Licensure

Students who complete their externship with an ASHA certified audiologist are eligible for ASHA certification. Specific requirements for certification in Audiology may be found at: http://www.asha.org/certification/. Students should familiarize themselves with the ASHA certification requirements and the ASHA Code of Ethics for clinical practice. These and other important documents are available on the ASHA website at: http://www.asha.org/aud/.

Students can choose to complete their externship with a qualified audiologist who does not hold ASHA certification. Students who choose this option will not be immediately eligible for ASHA certification upon graduation. According to the 2020 Standards for Clinical Certification in Audiology, Standard III, a licensed audiologist may apply for certification after completing certain employment experiences. Additional information at: https://www.asha.org/certification/2020-audiology-certification-standards/#standardIII.

Graduates are also eligible for ABA certification through the American Board of Audiology upon completion of ABA’s post-graduation requirements. Specific requirements for certification by the American Board of Audiology may be found at: https://www.audiology.org/american-board-of-audiology/aba-certification/.

Documentation required for state licensure may be requested by contacting the Program Director.
