CT 601 Foundations of CVP

Prerequisites: None. This course is designed to provide students with foundational concepts in medical terminology, cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. In addition, students will understand basic life support and receive CPR and BLS certification. Concepts in cardiovascular pathophysiology will cover common emergent and chronic cardiovascular pathologies, along with diagnostic methods and criteria, and their associated medical, surgical, and pharmacological management strategies. Foundational aspects of cardiac technician practice will be introduced, including CIED indications set by the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Heart Association (AHA), and the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS). throughout the course and practiced through active learning strategies. Principles of cardiac device specialist practice and clinical decision-making frameworks will be introduced to help students develop structured, evidence-based approaches to patient management. Professional and ethical responsibilities will be explored through case-based scenarios, highlighting the cardiac device specialist’s role within the interprofessional healthcare team. Students will also receive training in basic life support and earn CPR and BLS certification.
