CT 660 Clinical Decision Making
Prerequisites: None. In a hybrid format, this course will orient students to the clinical environment in preparation for clinical experiences. Students will be involved in simulation activities onsite to develop skills in patient interaction and hands-on experiences with clinical decision-making approaches to patient management using case scenarios. During onsite simulation experiences, students will apply knowledge of foundational skills in basic ECG interpretation and clinical decision making as they interact with standardized patients in an active learning environment. They will work with a pacemaker simulator to analyze pacemaker rhythms. Students will also spend two days at the MGH Heart Center, where they will be oriented to the clinical setting, various implantable devices, and will observe an electrophysiology study to understand the day-to-day interactions of a CIED technician. Through a combination of patient cases, simulation, active learning approaches, and immersive clinical experiences, students will be prepared to go into a fully immersive clinical experience in the following semester.
