16. Conducting research

All students are required to complete the Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (www.citiprogram.org) prior to engaging in any research activities. All studies that involve the participation of human subjects must be reviewed and approved by an institutional review board (IRB) to assure compliance with ethical standards for conducting human studies research. Proposals for projects done at the Institute are reviewed by the appropriate IRB. Regulations, standards, and guidelines for submission of proposals can be found on the Mass General Brigham website.  No research may be conducted prior to proper IRB approval. If research will be conducted at other facilities, IRB approval may be required by other entities. Please consult with your Faculty Advisor and the facility where you are proposing to conduct the research study prior to submitting an IRB application. The Genetic Counseling Program Director of Student Research is available for any questions and guidance.
