i. Introduction
The Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device Technician (CIED) graduate technician certificate program is designed to prepare students with an interest in health and cardiac device technology to address trends in the ever-changing healthcare system, through advanced training and skills in cardiac device technology and the application of evidence-based coursework and clinical integration. The CIED program is an 18-credit, blended learning experience including synchronous and asynchronous online coursework, onsite coursework including simulation, and clinical training over the course of two semesters.
The curriculum will include foundational knowledge in basic cardiac electrophysiology, pharmacology, cardiovascular anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, basic and advanced life support, imaging, and electrophysiology. The curriculum will also include interprofessional education experiences and simulations that foster the development of communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. In addition, case-based simulations with the various programmers will provide specialized training related to the various technology and devices. Students will also engage with other IHP students across health disciplines in ”What is the IHP’s Role in Health Equity” and an interprofessional simulation.
