Incompletes in Fieldwork
In rare cases when a student terminates a Level II fieldwork experience before the scheduled end date due to extenuating circumstances (e.g., medical, or personal emergencies), the student may petition the Committee on Academic Policies and Procedures (CAPP) for a grade of Incomplete. This option is not available to students who discontinue or are removed from fieldwork due to poor performance. All petitions will be reviewed case-by-case, in consultation with the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC).
Policy on Repeated Withdrawal or Leave of Absence from Level II Fieldwork
While the program is committed to supporting students through challenges that may arise during clinical placements, repeated withdrawal, whether through student-initiated termination, approved course withdrawal, or leave of absence, disrupts progression and affects program planning and partnership with clinical sites.
Students may be assigned up to three (3) Level II fieldwork placements in total. This includes placements that are:
• Successfully completed,
• Terminated by the student for any reason, including personal or medical,
• Withdrawn from with or without petition for Incomplete,
• Interrupted by an approved Leave of Absence (LOA) or
• Course failure.
Following a third placement assignment, regardless of the outcome, students who have not met the Level II fieldwork requirement will be referred to the Committee on Academic and Policies and Procedures (CAPP). CAPP will review the student’s academic record, clinical performance, and circumstances surrounding each withdrawal or LOA to determine:
• Whether the student remains eligible to continue in the program,
• Whether another placement may be granted,
• What conditions must be met prior to re-assignment, if applicable.
This policy applies regardless of whether the student’s withdrawal or leave was associated with a leave of absence or other extenuating circumstances.
