ix. Visiting Faculty
Faculty members from other higher education institutions who spend an extended time at the MGH Institute may be granted the status of visiting faculty. Such a status accords the faculty members certain privileges to allow them to continue their scholarly work and may include access to libraries, laboratories and other facilities, e-mail, and other resources. Visiting faculty are generally guests of an MGH Institute faculty member.
Ordinarily, visiting faculty are not paid, nor do they receive benefits. Visiting faculty do not receive rank and are not governed by the personnel policies of the faculty. International scholars must work with the Office of Student Affairs and Services to obtain a J-1 visa.
Requests for an appointment as a visiting faculty should be made in writing to the provost and include the purpose of the visit, length of stay, resources requested, and expected outcomes. The provost will convey a decision in writing. It is the responsibility of the faculty host and academic unit to arrange for the visiting faculty members’ needs.
