x. Emeriti Faculty
Faculty members who retire and have contributed a substantial proportion of their career or have made extraordinary contributions to the MGH Institute may be offered emerita/us status upon retirement. Such status allows them to continue as members of the faculty without salary or benefits but may be granted specific privileges. These privileges are reviewed each year and may include access to library resources, e-mail, and office space. Emeriti faculty are invited to participate in Commencement and other formal events.
By January 15th of the faculty member's final academic year at the MGH Institute, the dean of the appropriate school may nominate him or her for emerita/us status by sending a letter to the Office of the Provost summarizing the candidate's qualifications. The provost reviews the nominations and may confer with the dean if there is a question or concern. If the recommendation is supported, the provost advances the faculty member's name to the board of trustees for approval at their March meeting. If approved by the board of trustees, emeritae/emeriti faculty will be notified and recognized at the May commencement ceremony.
