1.1 Admissions Qualifcations
Degree: Applicants in the CIED program must have an earned bachelor's degree (in any field) from one of the following:
- A regionally accredited U.S. college or university
- An accredited college or university (for those educated outside the U.S.) with course-by-course credential evaluation
Prerequisites: No prerequisite courses are required; however, coursework in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and physics is encouraged.

If English is not first language, applicants must take a Foreign Language Equivalency Test. The IHP accepts either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System). The test must have been taken within two years of application and official score reports are required. The minimum TOEFL score accepted is 89 and the minimum IELTS score accepted is 6.5.
Admission decisions are based on prior academic performance (undergraduate and graduate), professional experience (CV or resume), a written personal statement, and written recommendations from former professors, clinical supervisors and/or colleagues.
Admissions requirements and procedures are subject to change. The most current application, requirements, and procedures can be found on the MGH IHP website at https://www.mghihp.edu/health-rehabilitation-sciences/departments-programs/cardiac-electronic-device-technician-certificate.
