1 - Introduction

Welcome to the Audiology Graduate Certificate program. This is an 11-month, 18-credit program within the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) at the MGH Institute of Health Professions (IHP or the Institute). The Institute is the degree-granting affiliate of the Massachusetts General Brigham Health Care System which includes Mass Eye and Ear Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network. The Institute is an independent, interprofessional graduate school of Health Sciences that prepares health professionals and scientists to advance care for a diverse society through leadership in education, clinical practice, research, and community engagement.

Distinctive features of the IHP Audiology Certificate include high-quality training that meets the needs of our local clinical partners and the larger profession, as well as providing students with the option to apply course credit toward the Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degree. All courses are drawn from the AuD curriculum allowing AGC students to learn alongside students in the AuD program. The program is ideal for undergraduates who are interested in working in the field of audiology but are not ready to commit to a post-baccalaureate doctoral degree.

The certificate program also offers students the option for parttime employment as well as a professional pathway for graduate students who must withdraw from the doctoral program for one reason or another.

1.1 Audiology Graduate Certificate Program Mission Statement

The mission of the Audiology Graduate Certificate program is to prepare clinical professionals to assist Audiologists in the care of people with ear and hearing disorders and to promote general hearing health to the public at large.

1.2 Purpose of this Manual

The purpose of this manual is to provide a ready reference for the Audiology Graduate Certificate program. Detailed descriptions of the academic and clinical requirements that must be met to satisfactorily complete the certificate program are provided. Students must complete the requirements specified for their cohort at the time of initial enrollment. These requirements are expected to evolve from year to year as the curriculum is updated to meet the expectations of the profession.

While this program manual is specific to the cohort of students entering in June 2026, the academic standards and policies of the AuD program apply to all students in both the AGC and AuD programs regardless of cohort. The standards and policies are provided in a separate section of this manual. Students are required to familiarize themselves with, and adhere to, the academic requirements specific to their program as well as the general policies and standards.

If questions or concerns arise that are not addressed in either of these resources, the student should consult the Institute Catalog https://mghihp.smartcatalogiq.com/en/current/catalog/, their academic advisor, or the Program Director. Ultimately however, it is the student’s responsibility to be informed about all academic and clinical requirements for their program and the Institute.
