4 - AGC Program Requirements

The AGC requires 10 credits of academic coursework, 3 credits of elective coursework, and 5 credits (500 hours) of patient service hours for a total of 18 credits. Granting of the Audiology Graduate Certificate is contingent upon successful completion of all required learning experiences with a grade of “C” or better, and a cumulative GPA of >2.5. 

4.1 Required Courses and Clinical Experiences

CA-710 Auditory Assessment - Behavioral Measures (4 credits) This course introduces basic audiometric test procedures including pure-tone air- and bone-conduction thresholds, masking, and speech perception testing.

CA-712 Auditory Assessment - Objective Measures (3 credits) This course introduces the bases for, and implementation of, objective measures of auditory function including acoustic immittance, otoacoustic emissions, and auditory evoked potentials.

CA-730 Hearing Technology 1 – Hearing Aids (4 credits) This course introduces the principles of amplification in ear-level devices, acoustics of the ear-canal and ear-molds, fitting prescriptions, verification procedures, and user orientation.

CA-760 Clinical Preparation and Observation (1 credit) Students observe clinical service delivery, complete HIPPA, FERPA and Human Subjects certification, and receive introductory training in clinical operations including electronic medical records, billing and coding practices, and universal precaution.

CA-761 Clinical Practicum 1 (1 credit) Students receive training in patient services at IHP and off-campus sites.

CA-763 Clinical Practicum 2 (1 credit) Students receive training in patient services at IHP and off-campus sites.

CA-765 Clinical Practicum 3 (1 credit) Students receive in patient services at IHP and off-campus sites.

 

4.2 Elective Courses (choose 3 credits)

CA-714 Pediatric Audiology (3 credits) Program prerequisites or by consent. This course provides an overview of auditory development, pediatric test techniques, congenital hearing disorders, and child-family intervention strategies.

CAH-834 Adult Aural Rehabilitation (2 credits) This course covers the rehabilitation of communication disorders due to hearing loss including hearing handicap evaluation and communication strategies for adults.

CA-891 Mentored Project (1 Credits) In this mentored experience, students identify a knowledge gap in an area of audiologic practice or hearing science and generate new knowledge through meta-analysis of existing data or through original research.

CA-899 Independent Study in Audiology (1 to 6 Credits) Independent study in audiology is arranged with an instructor in the program.  For students in the Audiology Graduate Certificate program, the independent study is applied to practical adult aural rehabilitation opportunities.
