Facility Requirements
Students must meet both the Institute’s Immunization and Certification Requirements and all additional health, safety, and onboarding requirements of their assigned fieldwork site—before and throughout each fieldwork experience. Failure to maintain compliance with IHP requirements, even after initial onboarding is complete, will result in removal from the fieldwork site.
Examples of Common Site Requirements
Most fieldwork sites require documentation of specific immunizations or health screenings prior to participation. These requirements may differ from IHP’s standards. For example, a site may require a negative TB test completed within a specific time frame (typically between 3 months and 1 year prior to the start date).
Other commonly required items include:
- Current CPR certification (Please note that some clinical sites may require certification from a specific organization, such as the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. It is the student's responsibility to ensure their certification meets the requirements of their assigned site.
- Training in Universal Precautions and HIPAA
- Drug testing
- Fingerprinting
- Additional criminal background checks (beyond the CORI completed at IHP)
Students are responsible for all costs associated with these requirements and must complete them according to the site’s stated timeline.
Verification and Site Communication
Information about site-specific requirements is included in each site’s Fieldwork Data Form (FWDF) on EXXAT. However, because site policies can change frequently, students must not rely solely on the FWDF. Students are expected to verify all requirements directly with the site and comply with any updated protocols.
For Level II Fieldwork, students should initiate communication with their assigned site approximately four months prior to the start date to confirm all required documentation and processes.
Student Responsibility
Unless otherwise directed by the site, students are responsible for:
- Submitting all required documentation directly to the site
- Keeping personal copies of immunization records, certifications (e.g., CPR), health history, and any physical exams
- Ensuring all materials are submitted by the deadlines set by the facility
Failure to meet or maintain any health or onboarding requirement—either from the IHP or the clinical site—may result in delayed or canceled fieldwork placements.
