4.3 Academic Support Services

The School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) offers free academic support via an Academic Support Counselor.  The primary role of the Academic Support Counselor is to support students who have academic, personal, behavioral, or cultural needs or concerns that impact their academic or clinical success.  The SHRS Academic Support Counselor is Mike Boutin, EdD. https://www.mghihp.edu/StudentSupport.  Mike may be contacted via phone: (617) 726-8021 or email:  eboutin@mghihp.edu. https://www.mghihp.edu/emile-r-mike-boutin-jr-edd

The Office of Student and Alumni Services (OSAS) provides writing consultant services.  Please refer to the Academic Support Services in the Institute Catalog.  Additional information about academic support resources can be found on the Institute website.

In addition to the student’s faculty advisor, the Academic Support Counselor in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences can assist students with academic support services. Students are encouraged to take advantage of these services for personal or academic needs. The faculty advisor may recommend a meeting or students can self-refer as needed.

Full and part-time students of the MGH Institute who may be experiencing difficulties that affect their personal lives or program performance are encouraged to use the Mass General Brigham Student/Employee Assistance Program (SAP/EAP) for consultations, short-term counseling, information, and referral.

Counselors are on campus two half-days each week to offer IHP students assessment, referral, and short-term counseling (up to six visits). The SAP is housed in the IHP Student and Alumni Center, Building 39. Students can be seen in any of Mass General Brigham SAP/EAP’s nine offices or speak with a counselor over the phone. For more information on how the SAP can help, or to schedule an appointment, call (866) 724-4327.

The SAP/EAP offers assistance with all types of personal, family or school-related concerns.  The SAP/EAP provides free, confidential, and voluntary assessments, short-term problem-focused counseling, and referrals for treatment or other assistance.  The main SAP/EAP office is at 175 Cambridge Street in the Charles River Plaza at MGH, but they also have offices at different Mass General Brigham locations in the Greater Boston area, the North Shore, and on Cape Cod.  Call (866) 724-4327 to speak to a counselor. They are there to help.
